Hi, everyone! It had been a while since my last journal entry and I wanted to boot it off my page, so here is a new one! What's been going on? I've been writing and drawing (more drawing than I have been in the last several years) and I hope to do more. What have you been up to?

I started watching Anime again (sort of) and I'm wondering if anyone out there can suggest their new favorites to me? (like in the last 3 years or current)

If you've been watching me over the years, you know the kind that I like: Funny, semi-romantic, adventure, fantasy, or non-fantasy. I tend to not like super dark things nor do I like sci-fi robots and such. I also don't like extreme drama.

Edit:
New Anime I've watched so far:
Yona of the Dawn - This one is ongoing. It's a romantic-historical fantasy. Love it!
Blue Exorcist - This is probably my fave one on the list. I love the MC
The Devil is a Part-Timer! - Okay this one is also in the running for favorite. I love the premise!
Ouran Host Club - I've seen this before, or most of it, but I completely forgot what happened.
Kotoura-san - Super cute, shorter anime. Slight fantasy/romance/silly
Sword Art Online - Um... love. I didn't think I would like it because of the gaming premise, but it's good.
Kaze No Stigma - This one was so-so. I like the idea, but the FMC bothered me.
Yamada's First Time - This one looks like it might be fanservice, but it's really not so much and actually a romance. It was cute.
  • Listening to: the radio
  • Reading: April and Oliver (among other things)
  • Watching: Yona of the Dawn
  • Drinking: Water

Glad to see you back. As for new anime, I've been actually doing more short novels lately. There's a funny one called: Is it Wrong to try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?. Ina  d&d world, this guys only thought is to win a girl.Through the levels of the dungeon under his city. Hilarity ensues.
Though I did also see Maoyu and the Devil is a part timer one as well.

Thank you!! I've totally missed being here <3. Though I have always been hanging around and checking messages and stuff.

Glad to hear you're writing!

I'll check out the anime you mentioned! Thanks! And I totally loved The Devil is a Part-Timer. LOL

Thanks for catching up. I'll have to send you what I had gotten typed out for a shorter story. The long one I had been doing is over 148 pages, so it might take a very long time to load. The other one is just over thirty. And I can't wait until the part timer one is on DVD. We just picked up .hack//sign and added it to our collection.  And they are rereleasing Ranma 1/2 in Silmpack, so we can finally get volumes 6 and 7. Six has my favorite VHS episode, where Ryoga bumps into a Yuki-onna. That means I hadn't seen it in years.

Awesome!! I love writing and it's great that you're doing well with it too :)

Yeah, I think part-timer is a great one to get on DVD! Such a hilarious show!!

Are you talking about the Ranma ep where Ryoga gets that doodle on his stomach?? If so, that's one of my favorites too. I need to do art from that like now. haha. I can't find the episode on youtube because I don't know what number it is, but I did find the manga overview: ranma.wikia.com/wiki/Akane_Gue…!

EDIT: Found it, but I'm not sure this is the one you're talking about. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynUZHV…

Great to hear feedback.

The character in question is this one:

But it's been so long I've forgotten the title of it. Still, the other one is fun, too. I'm gonna be thrilled to get both back.

Well Ranma is possibly my favorite Anime ever. It may not be the BEST one, but I love it so dearly that I call it my favorite :) I've also seen Inuyasha. I'll check those others out! I think RWBY is on netflix. Thanks!

"The Devil is a Part-Timer!" is pretty great. It's about the Devil, who gets banished to Earth, and he takes up a part-time job at a MacDonald's-esque burger restaurant.

"Blue Exorcist" (or "Ao Exorcist") is good too. It's one of those series where the first big plot twist is in the first episode, but that plot twist is also the whole premise of the show, so the best way I can describe it is a guy with special powers attends a school for exorcists-in-training, where his twin brother is actually a teacher. He makes enemies and friends. The main character is such a goober, it's hilarious.
I think they just put the dub up on Netflix not long ago, and the subtitled version was already up there. (Likewise there's a dub and sub of Devil is a Part-Timer on Netflix; and of course you can find this stuff on more illicit sites).

LOOOOVED "The Devil is a Part Timer"!!!! Though I'm sad it was only one season and didn't feel concluded at all :( I'll check out your other suggestion, too!

It's also got a manga and light novel version, but both are ongoing, so you can't even get a real conclusion from those yet. :(  I appreciate not having an overly long anime with tons of filler, but I really wish the series could've been a bit longer. Oh, well.

CLANNAD and CLANNAD After Story. BEWARE, it is very emotional. But overall a good anime, great drama and good bits of comedy. I watched the dubbed, the acting was VERY good. I saw 1 ep in Japanese, it was good too, but dubbed amazing! :icontomoyaapprovesplz:
I tried watching "The World Only God Knows", couldn't quite get into it, Romantic comedy, Parody, Fantasy and Harem. I should give it a try again.
And there is a bunch I gotta watch, a nice list of about 15.
Other than taht good luck and hope you enjoy, haha :D

Thank you! Will Definitely c heck Clannad and Clannad out. Is it Celtic inspired? Oh, just googled it. There's an Irish band named Clannad and that's where it rang a bell. LOL.

It was actually a misinterpretation, "writer Jun Maeda mistakenly thought the name of the Irish band Clannad meant "clan" or "family" in Irish.
But the idea Family is what created this series. again, it's really emotional. So good luck watching it, :XD:

My current watch list:

"Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!" - SO. CUTE. I've put up links to both a general overview review (no spoilers) and a review of episode 1 (spoilers) in my Journal; I'll be reviewing the rest of the episodes soon; I'm in the middle of working on a fan art for the series right now. Episode 6 of the series will air on Tuesday.
"Natsume's Book of Friends" - on my fourth watch-through of this series with my daughter.  I started watching it while I was pregnant with her, and she and I both love it. It has drama and a couple dark moments, but it also has humor and light-hearted stories, too. The author intentionally avoided romance in the story. There are currently four seasons of the anime available.
"Tiger & Bunny" - Has a bit of everything; I mistakenly thought it was going to be about robots - a la Gundam series - early on because of a couple of battle suit designs in the intro sequence and trailers for the anime, but it actually has little to do with robots at all. A couple human-like robots are included as characters later in the series. It has everything including romance, and the drama/dark gets pretty dense for a while toward the end of the first season. Season 1 is available for viewers outside Japan.
"Prince of Music / Uta no Prince-sama" - Some drama, but mostly a coming-of-age and finding oneself story. Some light romance; one of the "rules" established early in the series is that the young men and women in the series can't have romantic relationships with each other.
"Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun" - mostly a high-school comedy based around a girl who's an apprentice to a shoujo manga-ka. Definitely romance in this one, because the main character is chasing romance from the start.

My other current watches are old staples - Dragonball/Z/Kai, Sailor Moon/Crystal, Ranma 1/2, etc. There are some series that just hold up well and are worth rewatching when nothing new is on. :meow:

OH MAN ANIME
There were a lot of really good ones in the past little while.
"Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis" is one of my favs, and it's not too long so it's a great place to start.
"Kamigami no Asobi" was a surprisingly good otome game adaptation.
"Kyoukai no Kanata" was heartbreaking.
"Love! Live! School Idol Project" is crazy fun and has great music.
"The Devil is a Part-Timer" is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen (and it's on Netflix).
"Watamote" another hilarious one, and scary relatable to most anime fans.
"Gin no Saji" by the same mind that wrote Fullmetal Alchemist, she went and wrote a manga about farming. And it's damn good!

Have fuuuuuun!

Thank you for the suggestions! I just watched Season 1 of "The Devil is a Part Timer" and LOVED it. However..... why didn't they continue it? I'm so sad :(

Well, they didn't continue it YET. The studio was invested in Akame ga Kill last year, and this year they're working on a sequel series for this year. They might carry on with it next year, but it's a small studio. They can't handle more than one series a year for now.
